I’m in the process of researching 35mm adapters for a RED One camera we’re purchasing shortly, and so far I have the two main players:
(Why use 35mm adapters with digital video cameras?)
British filmmaker Philip Bloom has several videos posted that use the Letus 35 adapter with a Sony EX1 XDCAM HD camera. Watch his video “South Bank” for a great time lapse tour of the city!

Here’s how to instantly improve your Internet surfing experience:

1. Use Google Chrome.
I just updated from an earlier Beta release to the new stable release 1.0. Check out its features. TechCrunch published a post on how Google introduced this product with a series of cartoons. The earlier version seemed to be somewhat like a better browser, but a few annoying things forced me to stop using it. So once I randomly updated Chrome again, it actually performs now. And, it was built in an apparent amazingly fast 100 days.

Watch this fascinating interview by Robert Scoble of FastCompany.TV with Matt Mullenweg, founder of popular online publishing software Wordpress. An increasing number of content creators and publishers are using Wordpress, which is so much more than a blogging platform. Check out my portfolio here, which is also based on Wordpress. It looks like lots of changes are ahead…

For those frustrated with iTunes’ terrible performance on PC–or any other inadequate music player for that matter–you need to check out Songbird. Built on Mozilla Firefox architecture, it works so well it’s been the best music experience I’ve had on a PC to date.
It’s open source, which means that it’s improving on a daily basis by a wide range of people, with regular releases every few weeks. It also works beautifully on PC, Mac, or Linux.
Customize your music experience with useful and stable add-ons, just like Firefox extensions:
mashTape shows Wikipedia info, Flickr photos, YouTube videos, Google News, and more for each artist.
Concerts show upcoming local shows based upon the artists you have in your music library.
LyricMaster provides seamlessly integrated lyrics.
Last.FM scrobbing, useful music recommendations, album art manager, twitter integration, and so many more in constant development.

Are you curious about Adobe CS4? Check out this free 70-page superguide, published by Creative Studio (CAFE). It always seems like Adobe makes their Creative Suite software as polished as possible, yet every 18 months they release a new version that always surprises and delights.

I’ve been recently exploring Adobe Lightroom 2
after working exclusively in Adobe Photoshop
since I started using version 7 back in 2002. For those of you wondering what the differences (and similarities) are, check out NAPP Photoshop User’s extensive resources here:
You’ve probably seen Photoshop gurus Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski around if you are familiar with any digital imaging tools. What a great resource…

Modifying desktops makes for a more efficient digital space, and more productive workflow. This can range from picking a pleasing background image, to keeping your desktop icon-free, or even adding useful widgets.
Check out this collection of interesting desktops put together by Lifehacker.

Working as a producer and project manager, on of the most useful tools I just on a regular basis is Compact Caldendar. Designed by David Seah, who designs entire suites of great apps (helpers?)–goal setting, task tracking, time tracking, calendars, etc.–all centered around productivity and tools to aid our thinking processes.
I’m curious to see what others use, whether it be freelancers or salaried employees. Let me know in the comments below.
UPDATE: Here is the link to the 2009 Compact Caldendar. It’s now customizable to any year, plus other updates.

Seeing the results of Vincent Laforet’s film shot with a pre-production model of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II gets me very excited about the unpredictability and inventiveness of our industry. We must be near the verge of quality-inducing breakdown of the basic (and proper) video creation process. Watch the stunning Digital SLR footage here yourselves:

Be sure to visit these behind the scenes videos:
We will be reading, writing, and interacting with this new video technology for quite a while. I think I know where to invest my next photographic equipment purchase…view it while you still can, as Canon has already served an
estimated 103 terabytes over the course of 6 days.
